Hometown Tunes: Tucson In Song (Part 5)

My adopted home, Tucson, Arizona, has a rich history of lyrical name checking in popular music. Here’s the part five of a continuing saga of songs that reference “The Old Pueblo”.

Hoyt Axton – Della And The Dealer (1979)

“Down Tucson way there’s a small cafe where they play a little cowboy tune.
And the guitar picker was a friend of mine by the name of Randy Boone.
Yeah Randy played her a sweet love song and Della got a fire in her eyes.
The Dealer had a knife and the dog had a gun and the cat had a shot of Rye.”

ZZ Top – Leila (1981)

“She left my ex best friend out in old Tucson,
Told me she was leavin’ and would be rollin on.
Now the days just pass on by,
Losin’ her is the reason why.”

Joy Villa – I Make The Static (2014)

“This love is hotter than Tucson,
Your lips are honey suckled fun,
You pushed my buttons made me wild,
I couldn’t quit you if I tried.”

The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey – Closer (2016)

“Stay and play that Blink-182 song,
That we beat to death in Tucson, okay
I know it breaks your heart,
Moved to the city in a broke down car.”
