Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs : Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love

184 – Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love (1969)
Written by John Bonham,Willie Dixon,John Paul Jones,Jimmy Page and Robert Plant
Produced by Jimmy Page
Label – Atlantic

Granted, there’s a definitive debt to Willie Dixon for Jimmy Page’s iconic riff, but the real thrill of this record is how the band take primitive blues and create an incredible mix of hard rock with a free jazz like instrumental section. The sexually infused minute and half of weird noises, Robert Plant’s howls and John Bonham’s creative rhythms are the closest aural equivalent to a drugged up trip to Venus and back.

  1. This is one of those great rock & roll songs. Even though I’ve never been mad about Led Zeppelin, I’ve always loved to crank this up… hard to argue with any of it, especially the riff and then that slide.
