U2 started 1982 finishing up the third leg of their “October” tour, with concerts in Galway, Sheffield and a celebratory sold out show at the Royal Dublin Society Hall on January 26th.
After a short break, the band embarked on a 35 date tour of the U.S., starting on February 11th in New Orleans with a final date in San Francisco on March 30th.
On March 22nd the band’s only release of the year would come in the form of a 7″ non album single. “A Celebration/Trash, Trampoline and the Party Girl” would peak at number 47, and failed to chart in the U.S.

During the summer the band played European festivals through July and August. On August 21st Bono marries high school sweetheart Alison Stewart in Raheny, Dublin. They honeymoon in Jamaica where Bono reportedly works on the lyrics for the “War” album.
The band would return to Windmill studios during September, October and early November to record a forthcoming album, titled “War”.
December would see the band performing live in Northern Europe, finishing with three sold out nights at Saint Francis Xavier Centre on 22nd,23rd and 24th December.
