Dance Crazes: Headbanging

head

The origin of headbanging (violently shaking your head in time to the music) is still contested. Many believe that the phrase was first coined at a Led Zeppelin concert in 1969. Crazed fans would bang their heads against the stage floor in time to John Bonham’s rhythms.

Black Sabbath are thought to be the first well known performers to headbang, as both Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osborne can be clearly seen performing it at a 1970 Paris show.
