209 – The Cars – Just What I Needed (1978)
Written by Ric Ocasek
Produced by Roy Thomas Baker
Label – Elektra
Perfect power pop/rock from the Boston 5 piece, from Elliot Easton’s stunning guitar solo, Greg Hawkes’ inventive synth injection and Roy Thomas Baker’s full on production that highlight’s Ric Ocasek’s smartly crafted song writing. The Cars were, at times, quite brilliant, and here’s the shining example.
I love Ocasek’s work as a producer for weezer – but I didn’t dig this one as much as I thought I would.
Could be a case of mismanaged expectations though, on my list to eventually revisit!
Yeah, The Cars did some blinding singles and other than their first two, some very mediocre albums.
