216 – The Four Tops – I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)(1965)
Written by Holland, Dozier, Holland
Produced by Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier
Label – Motown

There’s many great interpretations of this outstanding Holland-Dozier-Holland classic, but it’s the Four Tops version that still trumps them all. Much of this is purely down to Levi Stubbs’ exuberant falsetto. His urgent declarations could rouse even the most casual listener.Brian Holland, the co-composer agreed, stating that he and his girlfriend listened to the test pressing “three to four hundred times” over the course of a weekend.
