Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: Aerosmith – Dream On

217 – Aerosmith – Dream On (1973)
Written by Steven Tyler
Produced by Adrian Barber
Label – Columbia

Proof that you really can’t keep a good song down, “Dream On” was originally released in 1973 to moderate attention and sales. As the band’s commercial momentum began to increase around the time of “Toys In The Attic” in 1976, Columbia cleverly re-released the single and it became one of the biggest and most memorable rock ballads of their career. Written on the piano when Tyler was still a teenager, his vocal emotion shines and Joe Perry’s intricate guitar work reminds us all that at their best, Aerosmith could comfortably rival the bands that they were often associated with, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones.
