219 – Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit (1991)
Written by Nirvana
Produced by Butch Vig
Label – DGC

Even for its probable over familiarity, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is still a dislocated, jarring, and thoroughly relentless masterpiece. It is a culmination of rage, angst, alienation and frustration in the starkest musical form. The shift from relatively quiet verse to highlight the blood pumping chorus is what makes the song so memorable. Its influence would guide alternative rock for the remainder of the decade and beyond. Who would have known antiperspirant could have been so inspiring?(sic)
