Whatever Happened To…? Ana Johnsson

Swedish singer Ana Johnsson rose to fame in 2004 with the top 10 UK single “We Are”, which had been pulled from the Spiderman 2 soundtrack.

Born in Gothenberg in 1977, Johnsson had appeared as a finalist in the Swedish TV version of Popstars and from there went to form the five piece all girl act, Excellence. They reached number one in Sweden with their debut single “Need to Know (Eenie Meenie Miny Moe)” in 2001.

They released a further four top ten Swedish singles before disbanding in 2002. Ana then launched a solo career, releasing her debut album (“Cuz I Can”) in 2004.

Having met a Columbia Records Executive on a cruise, Johnsson was asked to contribute a song for the Spiderman 2 movie. The resultant single (“We Are”) would be a top 10 hit in five European countries including her homeland.

In 2006 Johnsson released her final album, “Little Angels” which contained two top ten singles in her homeland but failed to chart elsewhere.

Here’s “Exception”, which reached number ten in the Swedish pop charts.

Since 2007, Johnsson hasn’t released or promoted any new work. Between 2006 -2010 she lived in San Diego CA, but has since moved back to Stockholm. There are no forthcoming plans to return to the music industry.
