The relentless 20 note bass riff has been covered by a myriad of other artists, and yet its true home is still in this classic disco single. There’s a sense of irony in the lyrics, which were influenced directly by the 1930s standard, “Happy Days Are Here Again”; a song written during the Great Depression, and seemingly applicable to some pretty grim economic times of the late 1970s. It was the perfect link that bound the demise of disco and the development of hip hop.

    • I think every music fan has some disco in them. At its best, you’ll still find some great melodies, often strong musicianship (Chic are a great example) and some irresistible grooves.
