We’re Gonna Make It Big One Day (Part 5)

Alvin Stardust

Alvin Stardust’s(real name Bernard William Jewry) route to fame and fortune took over 12 years. As singer Shane Fenton and The Fentones he released 11 singles between 1961 – 1964 on the Parlophone label, with only one “Cindy’s Birthday” reaching the top 20.

A name change, and a new look, which was obviously inspired by Elvis Presley would be the catalyst that brought about huge commercial success, starting with 1973s “My Coo Ca Choo” which reached number two. His next single (“Jealous Mind”), would reach the number one spot, and he would go on to achieve a further seven top 20 singles over that next ten years.
