Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: The Doors – Light My Fire

233 – The Doors – Light My Fire (1967)
Written by The Doors
Produced by Paul Rothchild
Label – Elektra

Guitarist Robbie Krieger had this half finished song lingering around from before the band formed. Imagine the thrill he must have had when keyboardist Ray Manzarek added the bass line, and more importantly, that memorable organ intro. Sonically, The Doors entry point as one of the biggest bands in the world owes as much to THAT intro as Jim Morisson’s vocal and persona. It may explain the reason he never cared for the song.

  1. Ray Manzarek was a beast on the organs. I’m not sure I would have liked The Doors as much if it weren’t for his work on the songs.
