Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: Nilsson – Everybody’s Talkin’

236 – Nilsson – Everybody’s Talkin’ (1968)
Written by Fred Neil
Produced by Rick Jarrard
Label – RCA/Victor

There’s little to choose between this and Fred Neil’s haunting original. It’s the introvert’s anthem; a succinct description for anyone who finds times where it’s difficult to communicate, socialize and there’s a yearning to escape. Songwriter Jerry Leiber described it as “a very strange and beautiful song”. Hard to define musically, but a perfect culmination of the best folk, country and baroque pop, it deservedly became the defining tune from the brilliant movie “Midnight Cowboy”.
