Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: Catatonia – Mulder & Scully

260 – Catatonia – Mulder & Scully (1998)
Written by Cerys Matthews and Mark Roberts
Produced by Tommy D and Catatonia
Label – Blanco Y Negro

Ah, Cerys Matthews, probably one of the most divisive singers in music history. Many commentators said her band dipped into unnecessary pop culture whilst tagging on to the tails of Britpop. Frankly, who cares. This is one hell of a single with a killer chorus. As Ben Myers from Melody Maker magazine commented,”they’ve damn near written a perfect pop song”. And just for the record I love Cerys’ voice.
