Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: Badfinger – No Matter What

264 – Badfinger – No Matter What (1970)
Written by Pete Ham
Produced by Mal Evans
Label – Apple

I always have a sense of sadness when I hear Badfinger’s original brand of power pop. There’s little doubt that Pete Ham’s collective could and should have been one of the biggest acts of the 1970s. An awful management contract that curtailed their freedom to concentrate on the music they loved meant that there feels a genuine sense of a tragic loss to every listener of progressive pop music. “No Matter What” with its crunching riff, and clever false ending never fails to win admirers, and deservedly so.
