272 – James Brown – Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine (1970)
Written by James Brown, Bobby Byrd and Ron Lenhoff
Produced by James Brown
Label – King

This stone cold slab of classic early funk contains a star studded cast, and yet not one of them usurp Brown’s charismatic hollers, grunts and chants. With Bootsy Collins’ rumbling bass line, brother Catfish’s chopping guitar line and the call and response vocal with Bobby Byrd works like a vocal rhythm all of its own. Brown’s bar room piano accompaniment adds to the sense of sexual tension for one of the maestro’s greatest releases.
