Banned By The BBC (Part 13)


Moral panic and political censorship have created a long tradition of records filtered out of the BBC radio playlist. Here’s some notable examples…

Split Enz – Six Months In A leaky Boat (1982)
Banned at the height of The Falklands War as the reference to faulty boats was thought to be bad for morale.

Anti Nowhere League – So What? (1981)
Not difficult to understand why this single which clearly referenced bestiality was banned.

XTC – Statue Of Liberty (1978)
Banned due to apparent sexual references to the New York statue.
