277 – Orange Juice – Rip It Up (1983)
Written by Edwyn Collins
Produced by Martyn Hayles
Label – Polydor

Post punk and Indie pop in the early 80s wasn’t just a redevelopment of the hardcore sounds from the punk revolution of half a decade previously. Some acts took their props from Chic and Talking Heads and “Rip It Up” is a perfect example of awkward Scottish geeks messing around and allowing dance music to infiltrate their sound. The Buzzcocks references are merely a reminder of where Edwyn Collins came from and the song retains a sweetly shining naive charm that’s impossible to resist.
