283 – De La Soul – Me, Myself And I (1989)
Written by P. Huston, K. Mercer, D. Jolicoeur, V. Mason, P. Wynne and G. Clinton
Produced by Prince Paul and De La Soul
Label – Tommy Boy

Whilst Public Enemy, N.W.A. and K.R.S. One set the heavy agenda for hip hop music in the late 80s, De La Soul came as a major relief with their dry humour and upbeat sounds. Their debut long player “3 Feet High And Rising” remains one of the seminal collections in the history of the genre. The hand picked samples are brilliantly utilised (Ohio Players and Funkadelic for this song) and bring out the adventurous spirit and sense of carefree bravado that lit mainstream charts worldwide.
