Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs – AC/DC – Highway To Hell

307 – AC/DC – Highway To Hell (1979)
Written by Bon Scott, Angus and Malcolm Young
Produced by Robert “Mutt” Lange
Label – Albert/Atlantic

The last blast before the sad demise of lead singer Bon Scott sees the Australian hard rockers explosive songs reach a worldwide audience. Producer “Mutt” Lange (before he lost his edge), enhanced the band’s sound without altering their essence. On this song, he added robust background vocals to the choruses, and along with other production refinements helped make the song a hit and expand their audience. When inducted to the Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame in 2003, Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler introduced them, saying, “There is no greater purveyor of the power chord.”

  1. Hi!
I found your blog the other day and only now just check out this 500 songs of yours, it’s cool idea and I’ve gone a bit mad liking a few faves! Hope you don’t mind? I’ll have to a look at the rest of your blog later but leaving a reply before going today! I have to say you need a little more Aussie music but that’s fine and pretty good you thrown in some, most people totally forgotten. I pick this post to say something because I wrote something about them and the song last year. So here it is, if you wanna look? https://a1000mistakes.wordpress.com/2016/09/27/cover-versions-acdcs-highway-to-hell-by-ed-kuepper/
Or not? I don’t know? Keep up the great work here!

    • Like you, I just do it because I love music and these I love compiling this list. I’ve got it on a Spotify playlist now and it runs for about 22 hours right now.
