Their original brand of harmonic power pop was the logical progression from the British invasion of beat music that had arrived in the U.S. a decade before. Music critic and writer John Borack perfectly summarised the song in his book “Shake Some Action – The Ultimate Guide To Power Pop”, stating that “September Gurls was and is the sine qua non of power pop; a glorious, glittering jewel with every facet cut and shined to absolute perfection”.
