With Bob Marley he formed the group the Wailers in 1963 and co-wrote many of the band’s hits such as “Get Up, Stand Up” (1973). On the evening of September 11, 1987, he was shot and killed in his home in St. Andrew, Jamaica, by a gang demanding money. The leader of the gang, Dennis “Leppo” Lobban was found guilty of the murder.He was sentenced to death, but his sentence was commuted in 1995 and he remains in jail.
