“This ain’t your archetypal street sound” raps Mike Skinner on one the most original songs of the new millennium. Deliberately downbeat with an urban realism that’s drenched in experiences gained from high rise slums, grubby pubs and filthy kebab shops, this vignette is a true response to The Specials “Ghost Town” from 20+ years before. Whilst American rappers were filling the airwaves with hot cars, bling, misogyny, and killing people, Skinner spreads a very ordinary story of British youth which for most is agonizingly realistic and relative to their everyday struggles.
