344 – Heaven 17 – Penthouse And Pavement (1981)
Written by Martyn Ware, Ian Craig Marsh and Glenn Gregory
Produced by The British Electric Foundation
Label – Virgin

Determined to outdo Philip Oakey following the break up of the original underachieving Human League line up, Martyn Ware and co. consulted the dance funk oracle and produced this sophisticated slice of electro funk. The slick groove and John Wilson’s meticulous bass makes for one of the most desperately cool songs of the decade. They would achieve greater commercial accolades later in the decade, but “Penthouse And Pavement” is still their club driven masterpiece, and sounds as fresh today as it did over 30 years ago.
