The Brit Awards is the U.K. record industry’s annual exercise in mutual back slapping. Unfortunately, as the Brits organizers have discovered, pop stars aren’t always on their best behaviour.
Irritated by Michael Jackson’s messianic performance of “Earth Song”, the Pulp front man invaded the stage, flicked V-signs and wiggled his backside at the cameras. Police were called and bizarrely, Cocker found himself being defended by comedian and former lawyer Bob Mortimer.
At the same ceremony and on receiving an award, Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher famously attacked INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence stating that “Has-beens shouldn’t give prizes to gonna-bees”.
