349 – Pixies – Here Comes Your Man (1989)
Written by Black Francis
Produced by Gil Norton
Label – 4AD/Elektra

Originally written by Francis whilst at high school, “Here Comes Your Man” had been a rehearsal song long before its release. The singer continually disregarded the potential, feeling the pop overtones were at odds with the angular and spiky material the band had built their reputation on. Thankfully, producer Gil Norton cajoled and arm twisted the band into finally recording the song for the excellent “Doolittle” album. The result is a glorious three and a half minutes of jangly guitar pop, and proof that Pixies could out trump R.E.M. with relative ease.
