379 – The Cure – A Forest (1980)
Written by Robert Smith and The Cure
Produced by Mike Hedges and Robert Smith
Label – Fiction

The most atmospheric song The Cure ever recorded was a small victory for Robert Smith in that record company (Fiction) felt that this could have been more polished and radio friendly for it to become a hit. Smith refused, and the song still became a hit. The heavily flanged guitar, Matthieu Hartley’s deep swirling synth and Simon Gallup’s rumbling bass melody make for a pulsating six minutes of introspective beauty.
