Produced by The Shadows
Label – Polydor
“Change Of Address” marked a change of record label for The Shadows from EMI to Polydor. Unfortunately, this doesn’t bring a change in direction or quality and the album is yet again a tired selection of instrumental reworks of famous hits from the past. At one time during the late 50’s and early 60’s the band were the U.K’s premier instrumental group, but by 1980 the band were a dinosaur from a long gone Rock n’ Roll era, producing worn, out-dated and completely forgettable instrumentals.
Covers ranging from Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are”, Fleetwood Mac’s “Albatross”, Chicago’s “If You Leave Me Now”, and bizarrely Jean Michel Jarre’s “Equinoxe Part V”, all pass by in a sterile, half comatose nightmare, and contribute to one’s genuine feeling that although one may believe that music was always better in the “Good Old Days”, just listen to this album to realise that whichever musical period one cares to look back on there will always be cankerous, mindless albums like this one.
“Change Of Address” is trenchant, relentless orchestrated snores, MOR for menopausal executives looking to revive memories of a time when they really thought they were hip. They weren’t, and the world doesn’t need this album.
