Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: Madonna – Ray Of Light

413 – Madonna – Ray Of Light (1998)
Written by Madonna, William Orbit, Clive Muldoon, Dave Curtiss, Christine Leach
Produced by Madonna, William Orbit
Label – Maverick, Warner Bros

A mixed creative decade would end with Madonna back at the top of her game. The self confessed and more relaxed earth mother focused more on motherhood and music than celebrity and shock. Many argue that the album from which this single came from is the most vital from her 30 year career and its difficult to disagree. The decision to work with top electronica and dance writer/producer William Orbit brings the ferocious rhythm, strange synth bleeps and stomping bass beats. Her vocal seems enlivened by this, almost manically wild with excitement at the close out making it one of her most fascinating and fantastic songs.
