414 – Diana Ross – Upside Down (1979)
Written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards
Produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards
Label – Motown
As career resurrecting collaborations go, Diana Ross’ decision to work with Chic was a masterstroke. Diana’s career had been in the creative doldrums for a number of years and the spark of joy in her work, seemingly long gone. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards created a tight rhythmic and musical framework for Ross to have fun around. The results on her magical 1979 self titled album are astonishing and Ross would never again sound so re-invigorated.
