422 – The Waterboys – The Whole Of The Moon (1985)
Written by Mike Scott
Produced by Mike Scott
Label – Ensign

With a Beatles influenced horn arrangement and Karl Wallinger’s Prince inspired keyboard flourishes, this magnificent Mike Scott creation celebrates genius in a person or people only known to the writer. Rumour has it the subject could be CS Lewis, but I’ve an inkling it may have been about the then love of his life who asked him if it was difficult to write songs. Who knows the answer? Let’s just bask in its glorious majesty.
