Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: MGMT – Time To Pretend (2008)

440 – MGMT – Time To Pretend (2008)
Written by Andrew VanWyngarden & Ben Goldwasser
Produced by Dave Fridman
Label – Columbia

Written whilst still at college, VanWyngarden & Goldwaaser’s hedonistic dreams strike a chord with every teenager and probably half the adult population that finally had to succumb to the daily office commute. The Dave Fridman produced booming Bowie “Low” era drum track and an obvious nod to The Flaming Lips odd psyche/pop makes for a single that celebrates a carefree spirit that somehow gets lost in all of us once we reach our twenties. “My Generation” for the noughties.
