Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: The Pretenders – Kid (1979)

465 – The Pretenders – Kid (1979)
Written by Chrissie Hynde
Produced by Chris Thomas
Label – Sire

“Kid” is a celebration of the outstanding guitar work of James Honeyman-Scott and Chrissie Hynde’s knowing pop sensibilities, and highlights one of the best pop/rock debut albums of all time (“The Pretenders”). Inspired by Dave Edmunds rock n’ roll styling, Honeyman-Scott uses a technique rarely used in modern music. By recording his lead guitar directly into the mix without amplification, there’s a purer, more natural sound which allies sweetly to Hynde’s melodic vocal.
