Mansun’s biggest handicap was that they were lazily lumped in with Britpop. This couldn’t have been further from the truth. One only had to listen to the classy alternative rock debut “Attack Of The Grey Lanterns” to realise that this Chester band had more to offer than simple three minute pop tunes. American audiences understood the concept far more, and Pitchfork Media awarded the album a rare 9.3/10. “Wide Open Space” remains its magical highlight.
