I shed a tear today after learning of the passing of Winnie Johnson, mother of Moors murder victim Keith Bennett. She died without ever finding out where her son was buried after a long campaign to get her son’s killer, Ian Brady, to reveal the location of his body.Twelve-year-old Keith was abducted on his way to visit his grandmother in Manchester on 16 June 1964. It is thought that Brady along with Myra Hindley buried Bennett in a shallow grave somewhere on Saddleworth Moor. Mrs Johnson’s death comes after police said they were looking at claims Brady had revealed details about his grave. Keith Bennett is remembered as the “lost” victim of the Moors Murders – the third victim of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley and the only one of the five children they killed never to have been found.
My heart and prayers go out to Winnie’s family. Her courage and devotion to finding her son will never be forgotten.
