Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: Radiohead – Creep (1992)

435 – Radiohead – Creep (1992)
Written by Radiohead, Albert Hammond & Mike Hazlewood
Produced by Sean Slade & Paul Q Kolderie
Label – Parlophone/EMI

Jonny Greenwood’s taut guitar and crashing three blasts of dead noise that introduce the tense chorus are of course what makes this song so memorable. Without his angry shards of electric noise “Creep” is a fairly simple self deprecating mid tempo ballad. The fact that other band members claim that his unique input was in their words meant to “f**k the song up” completely backfires and with few overdubs and an almost live feel makes this single one of the most gripping songs in history.
