Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: Alanis Morissette – Thank U (1998)

442 – Alanis Morissette – Thank U (1998)
Written by Alanis Morissette & Glen Ballard
Produced by Alanis Morissette & Glen Ballard
Label – Maverick

The lead single from the oft misunderstood “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie” album sees Alanis letting go of her emotional insecurities that had led to the anger that had fueled much of her previous album “Jagged Little Pill”. As she nakedly bears herself open to find clarity and understanding, one appreciates either the valour or madness of this kind of personal exposure to the record buying public. Maybe it’s a combination of both, but for this listener there’s a simple beauty and a sense of innate intrigue that’s hard to shrug off.
