There’s a level of helplessness and hopelessness that’s conveyed in Emily Haines’ anti war stance. With a nod to Bobby Fuller and The Clash, the iconic line “I fought the war, I fought the war, but the war won’t stop for the love of God” grows in emphasis from brittle surrender to snarling defiance as the song closes out.
