Admittedly, the song owes heavily to Kraftwerk’s “Radioactivity”, but in many ways this single was pioneering by its introduction to a new world of synth pop that would dominate the charts for the next decade. OMD would continue to produce excellent singles but nothing matches “Electricity” for that sense of raw energy few singles manage to attain.
