Hackskeptic’s 500 Greatest Songs: Pink Floyd – High Hopes (1994)

452 – Pink Floyd – High Hopes (1994)
Written by Gilmour/Sampson
Produced by Bob Ezrin and Dave Gilmour
Label – EMI/Columbia

If Roger Waters could write literally hours of warped reflections from his childhood, then Dave Gilmour could counter with this superb ode to the bittersweet memories of a young life about to venture into a big world. Anyone who thought that Floyd without their key songwriter were about as appetising a repeat prescription of “The Final Cut” would be shaken by this seismic single. The guitar solo that closes the song has beautiful sadness that’s almost impossible to explain in mere words.
