When Sting wrote this joyous love song in 1977 whilst with the short lived four piece new wave act Strontium 90 he must have known the machismo music world would have never forgiven its sentimental tendancies, and therefore the song remained wrapped up for “another rainy day”. It is of course a pure pop song but the hints of influence from other genres including reggae, calypso rhythms and Latin piano all add spice to one of the early 80s greatest singles.
