The twelve Mercury Music Prize nominations have been announced today and five of the selection have featured in The Hackskeptic’s top 10 albums of 2011 (so far).

Adele is the obvious favourite, but look out for PJ Harvey who won the Mercury’s ten years ago and in my opinion her latest album is the best she’s recorded. I’d love to see an outsider like Anna Calvi get the vote, and Everything Everything’s album from last year was superbly inventive. If I was going to take a punt on an outsider I would put a tenner on the beautiful King Creosote & Jon Hopkins album “Diamond Mine”
